Yet where Goldin insists on raw confession and Sherman on disguising identity via costume, Stuart stages a paradoxical space that is at once hyperconstructed and intimate—an artificial private realm presented as if accidentally exposed. By 2024, his visual language has absorbed decades of photographic and cinematic strategies: chiaroscuro lighting, cinematic framing, and mise-en-scène that signal narrative without committing to a single story.
