The film revolves around the eccentric and macabre Addams Family, consisting of patriarch Gomez (Raul Julia), matriarch Morticia (Anjelica Huston), their children Pugsley (Jimmy Workman) and Wednesday (Christina Ricci), and their Uncle Fester (Christopher Lloyd). The family is delighted when they discover that a butler named Lurch (Carey Elwes) has found a suitable mate, Maria (Catherine Zeta-Jones), for Uncle Fester. However, their plans are disrupted by the arrival of a con artist, Arthur Dempster (Danny DeVito), who tries to take advantage of the family's wealth.
