The arrival of a young and ambitious piano student, Walter Friedemann (played by Tobias Moretti), sets off a chain of events that disrupts Erika's carefully constructed world. As Erika becomes increasingly obsessed with Walter, she begins to experience a range of emotions that she had previously suppressed.
